THROUGH A LENS

I use a camera as a sketchbook, gathering visual ideas that may later develop into paintings. Sometimes, however, the photograph exists as a finished work in its own right. I am particularly interested in photographing moving subjects. When faced with movement, the camera produces fragmented and incomplete images, and it is this disruption that attracts me. I deliberately work with this damaged visual information, transforming it into prints, videos and paintings.

Through the camera I search for shape, colour and mood. The traces of movement often feel painterly, blurring the boundary between photography and painting. I am drawn to the immediacy of the photographic image, and to the camera frame as a stage where light and movement perform. Within these fleeting moments, unexpected images emerge.
